AC's Thoughts On Life

Hello one and all! I am here for the purpose of my Honors English class. This is where I will write down my thoughts about anything and everything. Just know that they will not help solve world hunger or cause world peace, but, they should be oddly entertaining! Enjoy!

Reality TV

How many of you are guilty of watching reality TV? It's the weirdest thing how some of these crazy shows that are so random some how grab our attention and convince us to keep tuning in every week for more. I have been a victim of reality tv myself. Just last night, my friends and I were at one of there houses and we decided o turn on the tv. it was already on channel 5 so we just left it there because we wern't really paying any attention to it. Then this show came on called The Biggest Loser where people who really need to lose weight go on and they're put into teams and then compete to see what team can lose the most weight. Sounds lame right? That doesn't matter. We still found ourselves watching the show for a whole hour. During the time that the show was on, we saw a guy sitting down crying on a curb because he couldn't run the mile, a trainer screaming at these people telling them that they were weak, and a buch of people stepping on a huge scale to see how much they had lost. Thats about it, and yet we watched it for a whole hour.
There are tons of crazy reality shows. The Bachelor, Average Joe, Beuty and the Geek, Big Brother, and about a billion others. Even KBYU has a reality show for fixing up houses and PBS has a reality show for kids. Why is it that we get so much pleasure from watching people do stupid stuff on tv? Over the years people have watched things on tv such as plastic surgery(The Swan), scavenger hunts(Treasure hunters), dating(Blind Date), and jokes being played on other people(Average Joe). We never seem to get tired of it. If everyone watched every reality show just once, that's tons of money for the producers of it.
What happens to these peole that go on the show after it's al over? Why, they become famous of coarse! After reality tv show stop being aired, many of the contestants are interviewd on tv, in magazines, and some of them find them selves with fan sites of people who saw them on tv and just can't seem to get enough. It seems as though being on reality tv is the easiest was to becoming famous. The auditions are usually just based on the fact that you're weird or different enough to be on the show. You don't need talent, just insanity.

I think it's funny that they call it "Reality TV." How "real" can anything be when the participants know that they are always surrounded by cameras? (Imagine how different you would act if you knew that everything you did was on film!)
