Is He Always Like That????
Anybody that walked through the doors to Orchard Elementary School expecting it to be just another day found themselves changing their minds as soon as they when they met Waldo. Waldo is everything you would never expect a janitor to be. He loves to act like a kid, loves to dance, and has an odd obsession with Sienfeld.
Besides the fact that he has an inch think pure black mustache, a bald head, and an ear ring, Waldo could pass as a regular 6th grader. He never takes things too seriously and hardly enforces the rules except for when it comes to skateboards. Waldo would confiscate skateboards from students as often as he could. Not because he liked to make kids miserable because they can no longer skate at the school, but simply because he wanted to ride the skateboards around the school himself. Almost everyday you could spot him hooting and hollering in the halls as he’s flew past the classroom doors. Many teachers would shut their doors because the students tended to want to run to the door and cheer him on. Many kids would try and copy his actions but often found themselves being lectured in the office because there are no skateboards allowed in the hall, but no one seemed to care when he did it.
Waldo often fancied himself a dancer. Every time he would enter a room he would twist, twirl, and leap in the air while adding his own background music,”Doo doo bop a doobedoo!”. When he was in the cafeteria he would become excited when people would make a mess because then he had an excuse to bring out “The Disco Mop”. Whenever the “disco” mop came out, people knew that they were in for a treat. He would turn on his stereo which contained a CD with various songs by Abba, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC , and Michael Jackson, and begin dancing around with the mop and lip syncing into it as if it where a microphone. Many times he would continue dancing even after the mess was cleaned up. Many times he would get so into it that you would end up thinking that he was truly singing at a concert. I think that if he had the chance, he would probably try out for “So You Think You Can Dance” and would surprised if he didn’t get in.
The one thing that truly stood out about Waldo was large knowledge of Seinfeld. There was a stage in the lunchroom, and when the lunchroom became too loud , he would jump up on the stage and begin telling jokes from Jerry. “ You have to stay in shape. My grandmother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where she is" , all the kids would laugh and beg for more. But, he didn’t even stop there. Somedays he would decide to take on the personality of one of the Sienfeld characters. He would walk, talk, and even dress like the characters. The scary thing was that you would find yourself believing that that was truly who he was, he never broke character. He even managed to respond to questions with lines from the show. He knew that much about it.
Even though Waldo wasn’t a pro skateboarder, a skilled dancer, or a character from the Sienfeld show, that never stopped him from acting like he was. Waldo was one of the craziest people at the school and always kept people guessing about what he was going to do next. So if you ever run into Waldo remember, don’t be surprised if he does something completely crazy because that’s what he’s good at!
