AC's Thoughts On Life

Hello one and all! I am here for the purpose of my Honors English class. This is where I will write down my thoughts about anything and everything. Just know that they will not help solve world hunger or cause world peace, but, they should be oddly entertaining! Enjoy!

Mean Girls

Most girls between 12-18 have seen the popular movie Mean Girls. The whole movie is about how girls in high school lie, start rumors, party, and ruin eachothers lives. This may sound more like a drama buts it's done in a humorous way and most people leave the movie laughing at themselves about how over the top us girls can be some times. But lately its started to look like maybe some girls are actually taking it seriously and thinking that that is the way to act in high school. I've started seeing more and more younger girls at the movies or the mall that act like they're 17. Many of them have tight shirts and short skirts, stick straight highlighted hair, and high heels. If you ever bother to listen in on their conversations, you're likely to hear something like this " yeah, she totally kissed him at that party" or " she is so fat, she needs to lose weight". Now it probably seems like I'm being a little over the top, and I wish I was, but it's really happening. All of these girls are becoming MEAN. On Opera and Dr. Phil they have had specials about how there is a scary trend in younger teens where they are becoming ruthless towards eachother. I think that these girls are watching The O.C, One Tree Hill, Mean Girls, and others and thinking that that is how they have to act in order to have a normal school experience. Somebody needs to tell these girls that they're being just plain crazy. Most of them are eather total beasts or they're miserable because the "popular girls" are so mean. My sister in law is 12 and she has already had a problem with rumors and boys that I don't even have. I think that parents should keep a close eye on their daughters to make sure that they don't turn into teenzillas.

Charles Dickens

I don't think that more than maybe 2 people truely enjoyed the Charles Dickens book that they chose to read this term. I heard mulitple complaints throughout the term from people saying that The Tale of Two Cities or Great Expectations was one of the worst books that they had ever read. I'll admit that Great Expectations was more of a pain to read than a pleasure, but it wasn't the worst book I have ever read. It had some good qualities and was better than some, but for some reason, I couldn't wait to finish it. When I really started thinking about what I thought about this book after I read it, I realized exactly why I didn't care for the book. I found that as I read the book it seemed to drag on and on about something that didn't seem interesting, or even important for that matter, which would cause me to have a hard time focusing on the story. I also found that a lot of times when I wanted to know more about something, he never really took the time to explain. I became really confused after about page 100 because I kept wondering how old he was so that I could better understand and better relate to his feelings based on his age. He would tell, of coarse, but it always happened at the beggining of a chapter when you're not really paying attention, and it was always something like, " after four summers passed". I did find myself becoming more interested in the book about 400 pages in, but then the ending was a huge let down. Throughout the whole book he is obsessed and completly crazy about this girl. He was always thinking about her, talking about her, visiting her, crying over her, and all of these other things. I was expecting their relationship to be something bigger than it turned out to be because she was in so much of the story. The whole story seemed more of like a pile of random events rather than one big adventure. I've heard from a lot of people that Charles Dickens is a good writer. I was talking to my Young Womans leader about it and she said that she absolutley loved Oliver Twist, but when she tried to read Tale of Two Cities, she got about half way through it, stopped, and hasn't picked it up since. So maybe there are some good Charles Dickens books out there. Even though I was really dissapointed in this book, I'll probably read another one of his books before I decide that he is an all around terrible writer. What was it that you liked or didn't like about Tale of Two Cities or Great Expectations? Will you ever read another Dickens Novel?

Don't Say A Word 3

As the time creept on faster and faster towards when I was supposed to leave I felt myself becoming more and more unsure about going to meet this stranger. I was scared of not knowing what would happen but the fact that I might be able to find out what happened to Alisa finally convinced me to follow through with meeting Kevin.

I glanced over at the clock and saw that it was 12:50. I grabbed my black jacket off of the floor and put it on. I wanted to make sure that I saw whoever it was I was meeting before they saw me. My siblings had all gone to bed and my mother was in her room reading her novel. My father was downstairs and had fallen asleep infront of the TV which was now playing an add for a new kitchen cleaner. The stairs creaked under my feet as I slowly made my way down to the kitchen. The back door would be easier to sneak out of than the front. I hurried through the kitchen and out the back door before I could change my mind. As the door clicked shut behind I made my way over to the side of the house and inched my way towards the street. Goosebumps started forming on my arms and the wind started to blow harder than it was before. When I reached the street I looked around to make sure that no one was around.

Walking down the street alone reminded me of those old movies where the girl is on her way home from a night with her friends and she gets that weird feeling that someone is following her. That was exactly how I felt. I kept looking beind me to make sure that there was no one there. The sound of my own footsteps seemed to put me on edge. I heard a noise that sounded like it was comeing from the bushes a little ways infront of me. I stopped and stood there as still as I could waiting to see what had made the noise. I kept my eyes on the bushes and saw the tail of a black cat. I've never been real suspicious but it still managed to put a knot in my stomach. I started walking again, faster than I had been before. When I came to the edge of the park I didn't see anyone else there. I raised my arm up and pulled the sleeve of my jacket up over my watch. It was 1:10. There was a group of trees over by the corner of the park and I decided that I wold have a good view of the park from there and I would also be hidden by all of the branches. I turned to go over to the trees when I saw a red honda slow down and pull over to the curb. I couldn't move. I wanted to run, scream, anything, but my feet where frozen to the cold cement. My heart was racing and I found it harder to breath. The car came to a stop but whoever was in the car remained in the car. The engine stopped but still no one got out of the car. If i ran over to the trees I would have to runn right in front of the car. My mind was racing and I was trying to think of where to go. I didn't want to move incase the person inside of the car didn't realize that I was there.

The passenger side door opened but no one got out. The car just sat there looking at me as if it were saying to me, I'll get you in the end so I'm going to take my time. Everything was so quiet. I was breathing so loud that even if the people in the car couldn't see my I was sure that they could definitely hear me. As I stood there in the silence I heard a sound from behind me. This seemed to be a signal for the driver in the car. The passenger side door slammed shut and the car started. It began to come towards me and I finally found the strength to turn and run. As I turned to run there was someone standing right behind me. I opened my mouth to scream but no sound came out before they threw their hand over my mouth.
