AC's Thoughts On Life

Hello one and all! I am here for the purpose of my Honors English class. This is where I will write down my thoughts about anything and everything. Just know that they will not help solve world hunger or cause world peace, but, they should be oddly entertaining! Enjoy!

Halloween Adventure

Alright, I have a ton of time on my hands and I thought Lauras blog was fun to do so I decided to make my own. (P.S, let me know what you chose, i want to see which one is the most popular)

#1) You wake up at 7:00am and realize it's Halloween. You also remember that you have to go to school. As your sitting in school, you keep thinking about your halloween plans. You can't wait to....
1) go trick or treating,go to #2
2) go to your friends Halloween party, go to #3
3) go to your friends house and watch scary movies, go to #4

#2) You run home as fast as you can. When you get there, you dash into the house to find your little brother and sister in their costumes waiting for you. You find out that if you wan to go trick or treating, you have to take them with you. You decide to....
1) just take them with you, your friends won't mind, go to #5
2) go to the Halloween party instead, go to #3
3) sit at home and pass out candy, go to #7

#3) You head over to your best friends house to start getting ready for the party. You're going as a pirate but you can't find your shirt. You decide to......
1) borrow one from your friend, it's not as cool but it will do, go to #6
2) run to the store to get another one just like it,go to #8
3) keep looking for it, go to #9

#4) Your mom comes to pick you up and takes you to your friends house. When you get there, you find out that you've seen all of the movies and you think that they are all lame. One of you're other friends is thinking the same thing, you decide to.......
1) go trick or treating instead, go to #2
2) go to the Halloween party, go to #3
3) go home and pass out candy, go to #7

#5) Your friends do mind and they ditch you and your siblings after the first street. When you get home, you throw your bag of candy on the floor and think about how much fun you would have had if you hadn't had to take your siblings with you. As you go to bed you decide that next year you will just go to the Halloween party instead. THE END.

#6) You put on the shirt and think that it looks great. You head over to the party. Once you get there you have a ton of fun hanging out with all of your friends. It turned out to be a happy Halloween after all. THE END.

#7) Nobody comes to your house because you didn't have any lights on ( you did this on purpose so that you would have all of the candy to yourself). You now have 5 pounds of candy and an empty house. You decide to......
1) watch a scary movie, go to #10
2) talk to your friend on msn messenger while trying to see if you can eat every piece of candy before you go to bed, go to #11

#8) You get to the store as soon as they close. Now you have no costume and your friend is already at the party. You decide to go home and pass out candy, go to #7.

#9) You've been looking for the shirt for 20 min. now and the party is about to start. You're about to give up when you find the shirt under a blanket, go to #6.

#10) You watch the movie until your siblings come home. You all finish the movie together while eating your candy. You decide that this Halloween wasn't too bad after all. THE END.

#11) As your friend is telling you about all of the stuff he did while trick or treating, you are about half way through the candy. You start to feel sick and decide to go lay down. You are sick the rest of the night and swear that you will never eat another piece of candy for as long as you live. THE END.

Is He Always Like That????

Anybody that walked through the doors to Orchard Elementary School expecting it to be just another day found themselves changing their minds as soon as they when they met Waldo. Waldo is everything you would never expect a janitor to be. He loves to act like a kid, loves to dance, and has an odd obsession with Sienfeld.
Besides the fact that he has an inch think pure black mustache, a bald head, and an ear ring, Waldo could pass as a regular 6th grader. He never takes things too seriously and hardly enforces the rules except for when it comes to skateboards. Waldo would confiscate skateboards from students as often as he could. Not because he liked to make kids miserable because they can no longer skate at the school, but simply because he wanted to ride the skateboards around the school himself. Almost everyday you could spot him hooting and hollering in the halls as he’s flew past the classroom doors. Many teachers would shut their doors because the students tended to want to run to the door and cheer him on. Many kids would try and copy his actions but often found themselves being lectured in the office because there are no skateboards allowed in the hall, but no one seemed to care when he did it.
Waldo often fancied himself a dancer. Every time he would enter a room he would twist, twirl, and leap in the air while adding his own background music,”Doo doo bop a doobedoo!”. When he was in the cafeteria he would become excited when people would make a mess because then he had an excuse to bring out “The Disco Mop”. Whenever the “disco” mop came out, people knew that they were in for a treat. He would turn on his stereo which contained a CD with various songs by Abba, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC , and Michael Jackson, and begin dancing around with the mop and lip syncing into it as if it where a microphone. Many times he would continue dancing even after the mess was cleaned up. Many times he would get so into it that you would end up thinking that he was truly singing at a concert. I think that if he had the chance, he would probably try out for “So You Think You Can Dance” and would surprised if he didn’t get in.
The one thing that truly stood out about Waldo was large knowledge of Seinfeld. There was a stage in the lunchroom, and when the lunchroom became too loud , he would jump up on the stage and begin telling jokes from Jerry. “ You have to stay in shape. My grandmother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where she is" , all the kids would laugh and beg for more. But, he didn’t even stop there. Somedays he would decide to take on the personality of one of the Sienfeld characters. He would walk, talk, and even dress like the characters. The scary thing was that you would find yourself believing that that was truly who he was, he never broke character. He even managed to respond to questions with lines from the show. He knew that much about it.
Even though Waldo wasn’t a pro skateboarder, a skilled dancer, or a character from the Sienfeld show, that never stopped him from acting like he was. Waldo was one of the craziest people at the school and always kept people guessing about what he was going to do next. So if you ever run into Waldo remember, don’t be surprised if he does something completely crazy because that’s what he’s good at!

Reality TV

How many of you are guilty of watching reality TV? It's the weirdest thing how some of these crazy shows that are so random some how grab our attention and convince us to keep tuning in every week for more. I have been a victim of reality tv myself. Just last night, my friends and I were at one of there houses and we decided o turn on the tv. it was already on channel 5 so we just left it there because we wern't really paying any attention to it. Then this show came on called The Biggest Loser where people who really need to lose weight go on and they're put into teams and then compete to see what team can lose the most weight. Sounds lame right? That doesn't matter. We still found ourselves watching the show for a whole hour. During the time that the show was on, we saw a guy sitting down crying on a curb because he couldn't run the mile, a trainer screaming at these people telling them that they were weak, and a buch of people stepping on a huge scale to see how much they had lost. Thats about it, and yet we watched it for a whole hour.
There are tons of crazy reality shows. The Bachelor, Average Joe, Beuty and the Geek, Big Brother, and about a billion others. Even KBYU has a reality show for fixing up houses and PBS has a reality show for kids. Why is it that we get so much pleasure from watching people do stupid stuff on tv? Over the years people have watched things on tv such as plastic surgery(The Swan), scavenger hunts(Treasure hunters), dating(Blind Date), and jokes being played on other people(Average Joe). We never seem to get tired of it. If everyone watched every reality show just once, that's tons of money for the producers of it.
What happens to these peole that go on the show after it's al over? Why, they become famous of coarse! After reality tv show stop being aired, many of the contestants are interviewd on tv, in magazines, and some of them find them selves with fan sites of people who saw them on tv and just can't seem to get enough. It seems as though being on reality tv is the easiest was to becoming famous. The auditions are usually just based on the fact that you're weird or different enough to be on the show. You don't need talent, just insanity.

Anger, Joy, Sadness, and Music

Have you ever been listening to a song and had it make you feel a totally different mood than what you had been feeling the few minutes before you turned it on? Has a song ever made you angry, upset, happy, or even sad enough to cry?Even in movies they use music to get the audience to feel the emotion of the scene.
When something sad or even great happens one of the first things we do is play some music. When your sad you could either play something calm and soothing, if your angry you might play something loud that involves a lot of yelling, and if you happy you might play something up-beat that you could dance to. The music kind of adds to the experience.
Sometimes a song motivates us to do something or to change something, but usually the feeling only lasts for as long as the song is playing.Isn't it crazy that it can create a total state of mind that lasts just for the length of the song? Imagine if music that inspired us could make us feel that way even after it's stopped playing.
What if you could have your own background music to your life? What would you play? Who would the artists be? Would you have a lot of songs for every mood and experience you can think of, or would it just be a couple of songs for the most basic feelings?Just in case you aren't really sure what I'm talking about,I've made an example of what kind of stuff I would play if I could have my own background music.

SAD :(

Fast Food Addiction

We all probably know by now that the United States is the fattest country in the world. Because of this fact, many people are turning around and putting the blame on McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, etc. A lot of changes have been made in the way the fast food chains are opperaiting now due to all of the claims being made that they are the reason for making us so fat. McDonalds and Wendys have added healthier choices for kids meals such as apple dippers, fruit cups, milk, and turky and cheese sandwiches which you can choose instead of the unhealthy fries, soda, and cheeseburgers. Even with these choices, we still get the same old burger and fries. Infact, for every 68 sales at McDonalds, only one of them includes even one healthy item.
Mcdonalds is spread out accross the whole world. There are Mcdonalds resturants in over 115 countries which serve up to 50 million people everyday. So why is it that there arn't 115 "fat" countries??
I think that it has less to do with fast food, and more to do with laziness. Think about it. Many Americans spend atleast an hour a day infront of a tv. Many teens spend hours on the computer everyday on IM, Myspace, and game websites. It seems like sitting around has become what we are best at. Instead of walking a block to the video store or walking down the street to our neighbors house, we hop in our car. If we were to excersize and balance all the fast food with healthy food, we probably wouldn't have this problem. We just need to become a little more self motivated.

What's up with Myspace???

There have always been certain trends. Over the last couple of years we've gone from trend after trend after trend. One of the newest things is Myspace. There are over 50 million profiles on Myspace and the majority of those profiles belong to teens age 14-19. Why is it that Myspace is so popular? What about the risk of predators? Wouldn't you think that less teens would be on Myspace considering all of the reports that have on 20/20 would keep teens away? What is it that is so fascinating about Myspace?

THE BEGINNING

Myspace started three years ago in 2003. At first it was mostly 20-somethings who had similar music interests. The age limit was set to 18+ and there were only about 2 million profiles, all of which were public. As time went on the age limit dropped to 16 and then down to the current age, 14. Along with the age change came the option of setting your profile to private so that only your friends could see it. Before Myspace there were similar sites like Friendster, Hot or Not, Xanga, etc, but non of these sites were nearly as popular as Myspace. They all offered the same features, profiles that are used to express personal opinions, thoughts of the day, personal interests, and music, video, and photos are used to make their profile more appealing. So why is it that the other sites were forgotten while Myspace is now known world wide? I think that it has something to do with the fact that the age limit is so young compared to the others and teens have more of a reason for using the site.

JUST HOW POPULAR IS IT?

Most teens visit Myspace once a day or whenever they can get access to a computer. A lot of the times students who have internet at home keep their profiles open while they do homework or when thet're talking on IM. When the school hasn't banned or blocked Myspace, teens usually visit it during study hall, before or after school, and even during lunch. Not all teens use Myspace, but the numbers of teens that do is growing everyday.

THE PROBLEMS WITH MYSPACE
The number one worry that parents have about their children being on Myspace is all of those reports about predators. The worry about children getting kidnapped or rapped was a big scare. There were a lot of angry parents, but it turns out that there were actually more reports done about predators than there are actual predators on Myspace. But even with the danger of online predators teens continued to sign up.Agian I have to ask, why is that????

WHAT I DISCOVERED

Over the summer I got a Myspace account so that I could simply IM at the public library because they blocked MSN instant messenger. After I got a profile and found some of my friends I IMed for a little while and then got bored with the whole thing and stopped logging on. As time went on though, more and more people were asking me if I had an account and if I was ever on. This made me wonder if I should get back on. As I got new friends more and more people would send me messages asking me to please comment on their pictures. I had no idea why in the world they were contantly sending me these messages. They would also send me messages about my profile and asking me to comment on theirs, and after a while I did. As I looked at my friends profiles I noticed something, the person that their profiles made them out to be was not who they really were. Many of them would say they were older of that they lived somewhere "cooler". Others would lie about where they went to school or what their hobbies where. One of my friends said that he was a skater and made it seem as though he didn't care about school or grades or his future, when in reality, he was a 4.0 student in Science Olympiad who couldn't skate to save his life( believe me, I've seen him try). Why is it that teens get these profiles when they don't even act like themselves. In the news reports they say that Myspace is used by teens to express who they really are when actually, their just using it to pretend to be something they're not. I think that the reason Myspace is so popular is that teens can pretend to be anybody they want to be. They can live wherever they want to , be whatever age they want to be,and be good at whatever they want to be good at. Myspace is basically like one big game of make-believe.
